Peace family,
These chipotle aioli deviled are crazy good and so addicting. They’re the perfect “little something” when you want to serve a small bite that won’t be too filling, making this a great addition to your appetizer table. Classic deviled eggs are fine and well, but sometimes you want to zhoosh things up a bit. Chipotle aioli is the star player here, but what gives these eggs an extra punch is the crushed red pepper flakes mixed into the filling and the chili crisp/green onion topping.
I grew up going to baby showers, engagement parties, and housewarming parties, like every. single. weekend. I guess my mom was (and is) that girl because baby, we were invited to everything. Always. On every menu, without fail, you would find a faithful, dutiful group of soldiers: baby shower meatballs, Rotel cheese dip, fruit/veggie tray, pinwheels, and the ever-present deviled egg. Let me tell you: this is not the deviled egg recipe from the days of yore. Let’s move on.
What Ingredients Do I Need?
Chipotle Aioli
Chipotle aioli is a garlicky, spicy mayo that can be purchased at the supermarket and is typically found amongst other similar condiments; mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup. However, if you wish to make your own (spoiler alert: you do!) try my five minute Chipotle Aioli recipe. It’s fast, easy, and can be made in less time than it takes the eggs to boil for the deviled eggs. We’re talking 6 ingredients, and I’m certain you already have at least 5 of them on-hand.
Chili Crisp
Chili crisp is a crunchy, spicy condiment consisting of infused oil with dried red chiles, garlic, Szechuan peppercorns. Depending on the brand, additives can include salt, sugar, MSG, scallions, and assorted aromatics. It’s more crisp than oil and it’s so damn good. Topping these deviled eggs with chili crisp is what truly takes them over the top.
Other Ingredients
- Water
- Eggs – large brown eggs
- Black Pepper
- Crushed Red Pepper Flakes
- Salt
- Green Onion
Are These Deviled Eggs Spicy?
They are. The chipotle aioli contains adobo sauce, making it spicy. I find that when combined with the egg yolks, the spice is quite muted, which is why I use crushed red pepper flakes to compensate. The crushed red pepper flakes also tie in well with the chili crisp because of the similar ingredient. If you want, try incorporating the red pepper flakes into the filling a little at a time, tasting as you go.
How to Make Chipotle Aioli Deviled Eggs
The process is very simple. To a pot of boiling water, add the cold eggs, straight from the refrigerator and allow to cook for 11 minutes
Once the eggs have finished cooking, run them under cold water for 1-2 minutes, and then peel immediately.
Slice eggs in half, add the yolks to a small mixing bowl, and set the egg whites aside.
To the mixing bowl containing the egg yolks, add the chipotle aioli, black pepper, crushed red pepper flakes, and salt. Use a spoon to break down the yolks and stir until creamy and smooth, adding additional chipotle aioli as needed to reach the desired texture. Remember that you can wait to add the crushed red pepper flakes last, that way you can taste for heat/spice as you go.
Use a spoon or a piping bag to fill each egg half with a portion of the yolk mixture.
Finally, garnish with chili crisp and chopped green onion, as desired.
Serving
Although these deviled eggs will keep in the refrigerator overnight, I recommend making them fresh, the same day (preferably within the same few hours) that they will be served. Of course, you want to reserve the chili crisp and green onion topping until the eggs are ready to be served. They make the perfect elegant appetizer for any party or gathering. Or Netflix binge. Whatever.
