What Ingredients Do I Need?
To make these chicken thighs, you will need the following:
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil – This is used as the base of my marinade.
- Barbecue Sauce – use your favorite brand; I look for sugar-free options.
- Salt-Free Taco Seasoning – I like to use taco seasoning that does not include salt, that way I can control the sodium content of my recipes. Check out my recipe for homemade taco seasoning.
- Kosher Salt
- Boneless Skinless Chicken Thighs– this is my absolute favorite cut of chicken and the only cut that I’ve tested this recipe with.
- Fresh Lime Juice – for squeezing over the chicken after it cooks.
Here are some suggestions if you’re going to make tacos:
- Ají Verde – Spicy Peruvian Green Sauce – highly recommended! It’s the perfect spicy, tangy, flavorful addition to grilled meats, vegetables, tacos, and seafood!
- Tortilla Shells
- Fresh Cilantro
- Fresh Lime
- Diced Onions
- Salsa
What is the Carb Count for this Recipe?
This chicken contains just 2 grams of carbs per serving, based on 4 servings. It’s low-carb, keto-friendly, and gluten-free. It can also be Whole30 compliant, depending on the type of barbecue sauce that you use.
How to Make Air Fryer Chicken Thighs for Chicken Tacos
- Create the marinade: Combine the extra virgin olive oil, barbecue sauce, taco seasoning, and salt in a small dish and whisk until well-combined.
- Let it sit: Add the chicken to a mixing bowl or ziplock bag and cover with the marinade. Allow to sit at least 30 minutes or up to 24 hours.
- Time to cook: Place the chicken into the air fryer basket. Ensure that the air fryer is not overcrowded; work in batches, if needed. Cook the chicken for 10 minutes at 400° F. Flip the chicken and allow to cook for an additional 7 minutes at 400° F.
- That’s all: When done, place the chicken onto a cutting board and squeeze fresh lime juice over the chicken. When the chicken has cooled enough, chop into bite sized pieces with a sharp knife.
